    PRINCIPAL's Message

Welcome to a new school year!  Many excellent things continue to happen in our school.  For the 2020-2021 school year, the Social Justice Leadership Academy will be a new Magnet school and the first social justice-criminal justice themed school in LAUSD!  This is our second year as a Linked Learning school.  Our “Franky Carrillo Teen Court” is now six years old. This past June, we graduated our eighth class and our sixth cohort.  This is our ninth year our school is partnered with ELAC (East Los Angeles College).  College courses continued to be offered in our school and on our Torres campus, for all students, grades 9-12.  We offer both and Honors and A.P. (Advanced Placement) programs.  This past year, we added a Decathlon team to our school program.  Our Decathlon Team had a great year! Also, we offer after school tutoring and intervention programs for our students who need more assistance, as well as enrichment.  SJLA will continue to improve student achievement so that every one of our students is successful.  Thank you for supporting your children and their schooling.  Ask all of us lots of questions, visit all of your child’s classes, and get involved.

    Get to know our school

SJLA is a college preparatory academy that offers a full-range of classes to maximize student success. We offer a Pre-Law/Criminal Justice program that includes ELAC college courses. Our school's "Franky Carrillo Teen Court" gives all students an opportunity to participate in monthly criminal juvenile trials and learn more about the law. All teachers work closely together on specific grade level teams to plan semester projects that are centered on the theme of social justice and provide students multiple opportunities to use their collective voice to positively impact their community. Because of that student voice and call to service, our school was awarded the "Civic Leadership School of Merit" award and recognized by the "Washington Post" for our academic program. SJLA truly creates positive, college-bound agents of change.
