News and Events 5/17/12

Special shout-out to our students who will be taking their AP exams this and last week.  Good luck – we’re all proud of the work that you’ve done and the challenge that you’ve taking on.

Mr. Camacho’s advisory class is hosting a Toy Drive to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital.  If you are bringing toys for the Toy Drive, please bring them in by today.  Mr. Camacho is offering extra credit to students who donate at toy.  Bring a toy to bring joy into a sick child’s life.

We will be taking the SJLA Panorama Picture next Tuesdayduring advisory.  We are asking all students to wear a black, plain shirt that day, seniors to wear their senior shirts, honor students wear a red shirt, and students in sports wear their jerseys. Honors students will receive a note tomorrow to let you know that you should wear red.  Leadership and teachers who have their jerseys should wear them that day as well.  Order them in room 107.

And now some announcements from the College and Career Center:

Peer Counseling Applications are due THIS FRIDAY! Return them to room 204

If interested in any of the following  opportunities, please write them down and see Mrs. Cha during lunch, Period 4, 5, or 6 and afterschool:

You think is offering an internship during the 2012-2013 academic school year.

USC is offering a one-week or two-week summer course if you would like to become a peer counselor.

CHIRLA is also offering an opportunity to visit colleges and learn more about our government.

If you signed up for the AB540 field trip to UCLA on June 2nd please see Mrs. Cha for a field trip slip.

Remember Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors: colleges want to see that you are active during the summer.  Make sure to start volunteering to different places this summer so that you can have them in your college applications.  Especially to those of you who are aiming for major universities, remember: grades are no longer enough.
